Cheesecake Disaster!

When I got my taste of home cookbook this month I e-mailed my sister-in-law and mother-in-law and "called" dessert for our monthly dinner. So last night I made a cheesecake. This was the cheesecake I attempted except instead of the top layer being mocha I made it be peanut butter.

Everything was going fine. The layers tasted good and it looked great. I cooked it as per the directions and cooked it until "the center is set and the top looks dull" plus I added 5 minutes just for good measure. I let it cool for 10 minutes...again as per the instructions and then took off the sides and...

...this happened! I have made MANY a cheesecake and have never had anything like this happen before.

Stewart hightailed it out of the kitchen (afraid of my anger) but I was just kinda laughing as I cleaned it up. I am mad because the COST of making a cheesecake isn't cheap and now I don't know what to make for dessert tonight.

*sigh* why do I bother sometimes

because you LOVE making food...even if it doesn't love you back.

How sad.

Wow, that is insane. Maybe at this altitude it just didn't get set up? The recipe I have lets the cheesecake sit in the oven after you turn the heat off and crack the door for three hours, I've never made one that only cooled for 10 minutes. Better luck next time, right?

I can't show this picture to Joe because he has a mad, passionate love for cheesecake and I'm pretty sure he would burst into tears. OK... maybe not. I hope you let Stewart eat the remains.

SAD! I would probably just find some way to may it my 1-year-old's fault... :) That is exactly why I always have my fall-back "dessert" ready to go:

a box mix of brownies. Absolutely delicious!

A brownie mix is exactly what I fell back on! Good call Laurel! I did make hot fudge sauce and we had them with ice cream so it was all ok in the end.

Anything with ice cream is a good choice. Sorry it didn't turn out. I saw that magazine too and thought it looked so good! Wanna try it again and let it cool longer? Do you think changing the receipe did something?

That's when you call up good ole Cheesecake Factory or "Marie Calendar's" and just call it good.
Sorry dude. That blows.

My retreat was a classic text book "break contact" battle drill.

I think men have a "fight or flight" survival instinct and Stewarts just kicked in.
